Ain Shams University is set to establish a cardiac surgery center fully equipped with the latest medical equipment, following an agreement made between the governments of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
The center will perform cardiac operations free of charge on patients from low-income families. The Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital will oversee the initiative.
The initiative is part of a humanitarian campaign launched by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the chairwoman of the UAE General Women’s Union. It aims to provide children and the elderly with the best therapeutic, surgical and preventative medicine services available.
Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, executive director of the Ain Shams University Cardiac Surgery Department, said the center is the second cardiac center in Egypt. The first was Sheikh Zayed Hospital’s cardiac center, which was established in July.
The initiative is one of several cardiac centers planned for Egypt.
The center is scheduled to officially open in early September. The Ain Shams University president, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the head of its cardiac surgery department, as well as representatives from medical institutions and humanitarian organizations, are expected to attend the opening.
