Al-Darb al-Ahmar explosion kills 3 martyrs

An Egyptian security source said on Tuesday that an officer died of his injuries sustained when a suicide bomber denoted himself on Monday evening in the historic area of al-Darb al-Ahmar near al-Azhar Mosque.

The source explained that Lt. Col. Ramy Helal, a national security officer, was injured in the terrorist bombing.

The number of victims rose to three dead and two injured among the police, in addition to the terrorist.

Egypt’s Interior Ministry announced on Monday that a terrorist was killed while being surrounded by security forces in al-Darb al-Ahmar.

A statement by the ministry said that the terrorist committed the incident of throwing an improvised explosive device (IED) to target a security post in front of the Istiqama Mosque in Giza on Friday.

The statement added that two low-ranking police officers had been martyred on Monday after a bomb in the possession of the terrorist exploded.

The ministry said its efforts to search for the perpetrator in the Istiqama Mosque in Giza after Friday prayers on February 15 resulted in identifying the terrorist and his location in al-Dardiri Alleyway in al-Darb al-Ahmar.

The security forces besieged him, and when he was caught, an IED in his possession exploded.
