Amr Moussa to leave Arab League

Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa announced he intends to resign from his position at the Arab League.

In a phone interview with Egyptian Television, Moussa said he plans to submit his resignation in the coming weeks, though he failed to give details about his future plans.

Moussa on Friday commended Egypt's youth and army for the "role they played in bringing about historic change" by ending President Hosni Mubarak's 30-year reign. He also called for building the nation’s future on the basis of a national consensus.

Moussa also said there is a need to base future plans on democracy and reform.

The Egyptian Armed Forces need to continue their role as a stabilizing force in order to build the new Egypt, he added.
