Political Analyst Emad Gad had expressed fears that the postponment of the parliamentary elections would affect the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC), which concluded in Sharm el-Sheikh on Sunday. The conference, however, achieved unexpected political and economic success, according to Gad.
In an interview with a talk show aired on the privately-owned TV channel Dream 2 on Tuesday, Gad said, “The Muslim Brotherhood was waiting for the conference to fail. If anyone had interrupted the conference, politically criticized it, or if anything had happened to affect the conference, the Brotherhood would have been happy to benefit from it.”
Gad, however, slammed the decision on the establishment of a new capital, describing it as unconstitutional. He said that an article in the constitution stipulates that Cairo is the capital and that it should not be moved, thus any lawyer can file a lawsuit over the unconstitutionality of transferring the capital. Gad said it would have been better to wait for the parliament to approve such a significant project and only propose the idea during the conference.
