Dozens of April 6 Youth Movement members demonstrated in front of the Ashmun City Council in Monufiya Governorate on Wednesday to demand the dismissal of Major General Abdel Salam Abdel Bari, head of the city council.
Protestors accused Abdel Bari of negligence as well as verbally and physically assaulting a member of the movement.
Amr Rabeh, one of the protesters, said “Ashmun was put back in the hands of [Abdel Bari] after it had won the title of the best city in Menufiya in 2004 and the best city in the republic award in 2005 as well.”
He added that under Abdel Bari, the community became plagued by garbage and there has been little work to improve or beautify the city.
In addition, none of residents' demands have been met either.
Rabeh said Ahmed Abu Moussa, a member of the movement, was also beaten and insulted during a meeting to discuss community issues.
