Arab League to hold urgent meeting on Palestinian prisoners

An urgent meeting of the Arab League will be held on Sunday to discuss the situation of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons, the Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the Arab League Jamal Mohamed al-Ghoneim said on Thursday.

The meeting will be for permanent representatives and presided over by Kuwait.

Ghoneim expected the meeting to submit a request to the UN General Assembly to hold an exceptional session on the issue of Palestinian prisoners kept in Israel, as thousands of them began hunger strikes.

The meeting will also mull implementing the Baghdad Summit's decision about preparing for an international conference on Palestinian prisoners in order to highlight the issue and disclose Israeli policies based on inhumane practices.

Ghoneim added that Kuwait, as the president of the Arab League Council’s current session, will offer the required support for Palestinian prisoners until their suffering comes to an end.
