Authorities refute rumors that royal bed was stolen from Prince Muhammad Ali Palace

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities denied social media rumors regarding the disappearance of the bed of Amina Hanem Elhamy, the mother of Khedive Abbas Helmy II and Prince Muhammad Ali Tawfiq, the creator of Prince Muhammad Ali Palace – a large museum in Manial area, Cairo.

The Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Moamen Othman, explained that the bed is in the museum for the necessary restoration work to be carried out.

He added that this comes in preparation for displaying the bed in the hall designated for displaying Amina Hanem Elhamy’s collectibles within the Muhammad Ali Palace Museum in Manial, which is currently in preparation for its opening within the near future.

The Director General of the Manial Palace Museum, Amal Seddik, explained that the bed is made from silver and was displayed before the start of restoration work in the Winter Hall of the throne palace.

It weighs about 850 kilograms of pure silver and is distinguished by its splendid engravings and decorations.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities urged all social media users to be careful before publishing any false information.
