Authorities thwart attempt to smuggle white sand in Alexandria

Egyptian customs authorities at Dekheila Port in Alexandria on Sunday successfully thwarted an attempt to illegally smuggle out white sand without the approval of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

During the completion of customs procedures on exported goods in the Inspection and Committee, a customs committee was formed to inspect the contents of a customs declaration of a company exported to Slovenia.

The item, according to the documents submitted, was four containers containing 80 jumbo plastic drums of yellow sands, weighing 110 tons.

Inspections revealed 24 jumbo plastic drums with white sand hidden and distributed amongst them, placed under the yellow sand from the inside, and prepared to be smuggled out of the country.

The head of the Central Administration of Dekheila Customs, Magdy Kamal al-Shahawi, chose to take legal measures and notify the competent authorities.

The company submitted a request for reconciliation with customs and paid the due customs compensation, which amounted to LE163,230.
