The Cairo Criminal Court brought to a close the “Bride of al-Marg” case which has captivated the public, sentencing the defendant, Heba, 21, to five years of hard labor.
She was convicted of murdering her husband just 150 days after their wedding in their apartment in the al-Marg district.
According to the case file, the Public Prosecution referred the defendant to criminal trial after formally charging her with voluntary manslaughter of her husband.
Security investigations revealed that a verbal altercation occurred between the defendant and her husband because she had not prepared a meal.
The argument quickly escalated into a physical fight.
The defendant then retrieved a small kitchen knife and stabbed her husband twice, once in the right side of his chest and once in the back of his head, causing the injuries that led to his death.
The investigation file included the testimony of the victim’s sister, who stated that while she was at her residence in the same building, she heard cries for help and screams coming from the defendant.
She added that she immediately rushed to her brother’s apartment to investigate, and upon arrival, she found him lying on the floor covered in blood. She called on other neighbors to take him to the hospital, but he died before receiving medical attention.
During her interrogation by the Public Prosecution, the defendant admitted to the crime but claimed she did not intend to kill her husband.
She explained that she was experiencing extreme exhaustion due to her third month of pregnancy when her husband asked her to prepare food, which sparked the argument.
Heba added that she was holding a kitchen knife during the argument before stabbing him, and asserted that she later tried to help him with the assistance of his sister and took him to the hospital.
The forensic report included in the case file confirmed that the victim sustained a penetrating stab wound to the chest, along with a laceration to the back of the scalp.
The medical report attributed the direct cause of death to the penetrating stab wound to the right side of the chest, which severed muscles and major blood vessels, resulting in massive bleeding and irreversible hemorrhagic shock, ultimately leading to death.
