The Muslim Brotherhood and its Freedom and Justice political party have accused Prime Minister Essam Sharaf of secular bias for stating is preference for postponing the parliamentary elections until after a new constitution has been written.
They said Sharaf wishes to violate the referendum on the constitutional amendments, which was held in March.
“He was chosen by the people to respect their will, not to violate it,” said group member Ahmed Diab. “Not even the military council can violate the will of the people.”
“There were 14 million people who said in the referendum that they want to end the transitional period and have a parliament,” he added. “Only four million wanted to postpone the elections.”
“The government should work on stability, not instability,” he added.
