The Muslim Brotherhood has criticized the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) for its sluggishness in issuing a law that politically isolates those who corrupted political life before the revolution, especially members of the dissolved National Democratic Party.
On Thursday, the group issued a statement, saying that the remnants of Mubarak’s regime are trying to regain control of parliament by bribing voters.
It called on the army and the police to secure upcoming parliamentary elections with the help of popular committees, which the group is willing to provide.
The statement criticized the United States for claiming that Egypt is unable to protect minorities, and for threatening to cut off financial aid. It added that the United States is imposing itself on the world and interfering in the domestic affairs of other countries.
“It is our religious and humanitarian duty to protect our Coptic brothers,” the statement said.
The group also called on the Arab and Islamic countries to recognize the Syrian National Council and withdraw its recognition of the regime that “kills its people.”
The group’s Freedom and Justice Party has also criticized the government for its weakness regarding recent violence that stemmed from construction of a church in the city of Marinab.
