Brotherhood party ends conference with warning for military council

The Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party concluded a closed conference Tuesday by warning the ruling military council against issuing general constitutional principles.

The party's executive committee, the secretaries of its branches and political candidates participated in the meeting. The party also warned the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces not to prevent elected lawmakers from choosing the constituent assembly that will draft the new constitution.

“The supra-constitutional principles constitute a circumvention of the will of the people," a conference statement said.

The statement also called for restoring security, abolishing the Emergency Law and handing over power to civilians.

Former Brotherhood MP Mokhtar Ali said the conference included female candidates for upcoming parliamentary elections.

“We will start campaigning in the coming few weeks,” he said.
