Brotherhood Supreme Guide, deputy referred to criminal court

South Cairo Prosecution referred Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, his deputy, Khairat al-Shater, Rashad Bayoumy, a member of the Guidance Bureau, and three others to criminal court on charges of inciting the killing of protesters in front of the Guidance Bureau headquarters in Moqattam.

Violent clashes erupted around the Brotherhood headquarters on 30 June and led to the killing of 12 people.

The detention of Saad al-Katatny, a Brotherhood leader, and Mahdi Akef, the former Supreme Guide, was also renewed pending investigation into the same case.

The South Cairo Prosecution also ordered the arrest of Osama Yassin, Essam al-Erian, Mahmoud Ezzat, all Brotherhood leaders, and Safwat Hegazy, a Brotherhood sympathiser and supporter of ousted President Mohamed Morsy, as well as five others on charges of inciting the killing of protesters in Moqattam.
