Cabinet has on Thursday approved the presidential elections law and sent it to President Adly Mansour to issue on Saturday.
An official source said the Supreme Constitutional Court requested that the High Elections Committee be immunized, which Cabinet has approved.
Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who ousted Mohamed Morsy last year and announced a new transitional plan, hinted on Monday that he would run for the presidency, saying he cannot ignore popular calls pressuring him to do so.
Speculation has been increasing that Sisi was awaiting the approval of the elections law to declare his candidacy.
His most notable contender is leftist politician and 2012 runner Hamdeen Sabbahi.
