Cabinet violence martyr mourned

Colleagues of Alaa Abdel Hady, a student from the faculty of medicine who died while helping the wounded, held a memorial service for him on Sunday. Protesters have battled security forces near the cabinet building since Friday.

Some of the students wept loudly during the service, which coincided with his 23rd birthday.

“The faculty will support Abdel Hady’s family morally and financially,” said Dean Mamdouh al-Kafrawy, adding that his professor and fellow students have already donated LE11000.

Kafrawy also said the faculty will name a lecture hall after the deceased and suspend classes for three days.

Professor Abdallah Barakat urged the students to demonstrate peacefully without damaging public property, but was heckled by students.

University President Alaa Fayez said the administration requested an official investigation into the death of Abdel Hady.

Meanwhile, thousands of students marched to Tahrir Square, protesting the use of violence by armed forces against demonstrators, and demanding the removal of the military council.
