Cairo governor, tourism minister plan to develop downtown Cairo

Cairo Governor Galal Saeed received on Tuesday Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou to discuss reviving the architectural style under khedive in downtown Cairo and developing the area, including Qasr al-Nil and al-Galaa bridges.

Local authorities have developed 30 percent of downtown's 500 buildings considered to be architectural treasure, said Saeed, adding that a lot of effort is being put in to develop Cairo and the downtown area in particular because it is a tourist attraction.

Zaazou said the Tourism Ministry supports the Cairo governor's efforts and offered him LE5 million to continue the development of Qasr al-Nil and Galaa bridges.

The minister said he and Saeed are planning to prepare leaflets with information about the most important streets, squares and buildings in downtown Cairo to promote tourism.
