Cairo International Book Fair kicks off

Egypt Culture Minister Enas Abdel Dayem and her Algerian counterpart Izzzedin Mayhoubi inaugurated on Saturday the 49th Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF) that will run until February 10 at the fair’s usual premises in Cairo’s Nasr City, with 848 publishers from 27 countries.

According to the official organizer of the fair, this year’s guest of honor is Algeria, and CIBF’s Person of the Year is Abdel Rahman al-Sharkawi.

This year will see the participation of 848 publishers from 27 countries: 481 Egyptian, 367 Arab, 10 international, and two African publishers. This year’s edition of the fair is titled “The Soft Power .. How?”

The fair witnessed today a large turnout on the morning of its first day, Saturday, as a large number of bookworms lined up at the outer wall in front of the exhibition gates, waiting to enter.

Ministers of Military Production, Youth and Sports, Communications, Local Development, intellectuals and media professionals attended the inauguration.

Culture Ministry said that there will be a special “book fair for children” which will include a space for children’s activities.
