Cairo shaken by 6.4 magnitude earthquake off coast of Crete

An earthquake shook Cairo, felt by residents at 3:11pm, reportedly caused by seismic activity off the coast of Crete.
 
Reuters news agency quoted the US Geological Survey as saying that 6.7 magnitude quake took place in the Mediterranean, 80 kilometers west of Chania City in Crete Island at 3:11 PM Cairo time.
 
The earthquake was 22.5 miles below the seabed and 43 miles west of Chania on Crete, the US Geological Survey said.
 
The Egyptian National Seismic Network said will issue its own detailed report later about the shock and its epicenter.
 
The quake coincides with the 21st anniversary of the destroying one that took place on 12 October 1992.
