Cairo Symphony Orchestra to perform at Cairo Opera House on December 21

The Cairo Symphony Orchestra is set to perform at the Cairo Opera House’s Main Hall, playing a Christmas Concert titled “The Messiah” featuring soloists, choir and orchestra on December 21.

The orchestra will perform under the direction of Ahmed Farag, with A Cappella Choir and its master Maya Gvineria also set to perform. Many soloists are expected to appear in the concert, including Dalia Farouk (Soprano), Gala al-Hadidi (alto), Amr Medhat (tenor) and Reda al-Wakil (bass).

Concert tickets are available at the ticket office and online, according to the event’s Facebook page.

The incorporation of A Cappella Choir in the Orchestra has enriched performances through various works such as Handel’s “Messiah”, Mozart’s “Requiem”, Verdi’s “Requiem”, Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis” and Ninth Symphony, Brahms “Requiem, Dvořák’s “Stabat Mater” Mahler’s Second Symphony, Haydn’s “The Creation” and Brahms’ “A German Requiem”, and more.

Founded in 1959, the orchestra’s first principal conductor was Franz Litschauer , who was followed by numerous international guest conductors including Charles Munch, Carlo Zecchi, Ottokar Truhlik, Ole Schmidt, Yehudi Menuhin, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Janos Kukla, Patrick Fournillier, Daniel Barenboim among others.
