Hundreds of students of Cairo University’s faculties of engineering, political science and economics have marched on campus to condemn the killing of Mohamed Reda, a student of the Faculty of Engineering who was killed in protests by pro-Morsy students outside Cairo University last week.
Students of varied political affiliations, including Brotherhood from the Faculty of Sciences, marched on campus to denounce Reda’s murder. They chanted slogans against the military and the Interior Ministry.
Campus security stepped up its presence on campus in anticipation of violent acts.
A recent report by medical examiners blamed protesting students, not security forces, for the shooting of Mohamed Reda, an engineering student, during protests at Cairo University on Thursday of last week.
The report by Egypt’s forensic authorities argued that protesters shot at Reda and his colleagues because the bullets found in the corpse are not among those used by police.
Reda had sustained three BB gun shots in the back, belly and shoulder during the demonstrations.
Students have swamped Egyptian universities protests since the start of the academic year in September. Demonstrators have been both supporters and opponents of ousted president Mohamed Morsy.
