A car overturned in Mariouteya canal in Badrashin district of Giza, on Sunday evening, killing at least six people.
One person was saved by the efforts of local residents.
This follows after a previous accident on June 1, when another car plunged into the same location between the villages of Abu-Sir and Al-Aziziya, killing an entire family of seven people.
In just two weeks the Mariouteya canal has become a death trap, claiming the lives of innocent people due to drivers losing control on steering wheel and the narrowness of the way.
Upon receiving a report of the incident, the Giza Security Directorate’s emergency operations room immediately dispatched security and rescue personnel.
River rescue teams promptly began a comprehensive search of the waterway under cover of darkness to recover the victims’ bodies.
Ambulances rushed to the scene of the accident, and the lone survivor was transported to Badrashin General Hospital for urgent medical care and examination.
A report was filed regarding the incident, and the Public Prosecution was notified to begin investigations.
