CAPMAS: Egypt advances to 103rd place in 2024 Climate Change Index

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said that Egypt has made significant progress in the Climate Change Index, one of the key sub-indicators of the Environmental Performance Index. Egypt advanced to 103rd place in 2024, up from 139th in 2022, among 180 countries included in the index.

The announcement was made in a press statement, Monday, March 23, 2026, on the occasion of World Meteorological Day, celebrated on March 23 each year since the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization and the implementation of the Meteorological Convention to help countries protect the environment and achieve sustainable development goals.

CAPMAS reported that the highest monthly average maximum temperature in Egypt during 2024 reached 45.3°C in June at Aswan monitoring station, while the highest monthly average minimum temperature was 31.3°C in July at Hurghada station.

Ras al-Tin station recorded the highest monthly average relative humidity at 75 percent in June.

The agency noted that the Arab region is among the most climate-affected areas in the world, experiencing temperature increases at twice the global average. This was evident in 2024, which recorded historic heat levels, making it the hottest year on record globally.
