CAPMAS: Egyptian cotton exports decrease 21% in first quarter 2014/15

Egyptian cotton exports declined 21.1 percent to reach 2.83 million kg during the period September-November 2014 compared to 3.58 million kg during the same period of the previous season due to the decrease of ginned cotton, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said in statement.
 
The agency also said in its quarterly report that the amount of local consumed cotton reached 8.75 million kg during the period September-November 2014, compared to 4.38 million kg at the same period of the previous season, an increase of 100.1 percent. This is not a real increase but rather from a sharp drop in the previous season, which reached 76.6 percent.
 
The amount of ginned cotton reached 15.57 million kg during the period September-November 2014 compared to 23.7 million kg at the same period of the previous season, a decrement of 34.3 percent due to the decrease of cultivated area, the report explained.
