Chambers of Commerce demand restrictions on street vendors

The Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce has called on Prime Minister Hesham Qandil to draft legislation regarding Cairo’s street vendors for the People's Assembly to discuss following the elections.

“The government wants to allocate a weekly market day for [the vendors],” said federation vice president Mohamed al-Masry. “We want permanent markets to incorporate them into the official state entity.”

“Not regulating [the vendors] contributes to unemployment and threatens consumers [who purchase these] goods of unknown origin,” he added.
