Egypt’s Health Ministry announced on Monday that it had received a second batch of medical supplies from China to aid against the coronavirus outbreak.
Minister of Health Hala Zayed thanked China’s government and people for the gift, which reflects the close bond the two nations share.
The shipment contains four tons of medical supplies including 70,000 detectors to analyze coronavirus DNA, 10,000 N95 face masks and 10,000 articles of protective clothing, the Assistant Minister of Health for Financial and Administrative Affairs Wael al-Saey said, adding that a third batch will be dispatched soon.
China sent the first batch to Egypt in April, which consisted of four tons of medical supplies, including 20,000 N95 face masks, 10,000 articles of protective clothing and 10,000 coronavirus detectors.
The Chinese non-governmental organization Alibaba also gifted the Ministry of Health a shipment consisting of 4.7 tons of medical and preventive supplies, Saey said.
Egypt and China boast strong relations in all fields, including infrastructure, trade exchange and health projects, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health Mohammed Shawky said.
The ministry will hand out the Chinese medical supplies to hospitals depending on what they need.
Saey and Shawky thanked Chinese Ambassador Liao Liqiang and granted him an emblem from the Ministry of Health in honor of China’s support of Egypt as it faces this pandemic.
Liqiang said that the Chinese government will send a third batch of medical supplies larger than the first and second batch.
