Cinema Industry Chamber: Egyptian movie pirating rising

The Cinema Industry Chamber said that pirating of Egyptian movies has increased over the past period with around 22 TV channels whose identity is unknown screening Egyptian movies.

Sayyed Fathy, general director of the chamber, said he plans to meet with officials concerned with intellectual property on Wednesday to examine ways to combat the phenomenon of movie pirating by some satellite channels and internet websites.

The chamber is studying the adoption of procedures against those channels after the phenomenon has already spread on a wide scale.

Some of those channels seem to be Egyptian, but this has yet to be substantiated. Besides proposed dialogue, legal procedures will be undertaken against the accused channels.
