The commander of the Northern Military Region, Mohamed Lotfy Youssef died, in a car rollover on Alexandria desert highway on Thursday, Undersecretary of the Health Ministry Alaa Othman announced.
Two other military personnel of lower ranks who accompanied him were injured and transferred to hospital.
The accident occurred on the Cairo-Alexandria desert highway at the 135 kilometer, said Othman.
The Northern Military Region’s headquarters is situated in Alexandria. It is one of four military regions of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
Initial investigations showed that the accident was caused by the explosion of the car’s front tire.
