An Egyptian Criminal Court sentenced the first defendant in the case known in the media as the “Dark Web” case to death, after he killed a child, mutilated his body, and filmed it for online publication to make a profit.
The Shubra Al-Khaimah Criminal Court sentenced the second defendant to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment due to his young age (minor). He is a student residing in Kuwait who was arrested and extradited to Egypt for trial.
The first defendant, Tarek, intentionally killed the child Ahmed with premeditation, at the instigation and assistance of the second defendant, 15-year-old Ali El-Din, who promised him 5 million Egyptian pounds in exchange for carrying out the murder and filming the mutilation of the body in video clips.
To carry out his crime, Tarek prepared medical drugs and a leather belt, went to a cafe where the victim Ahmed was sitting, and lured him to his house under the pretext of giving him a gift.
He then gave him a drink containing narcotic drugs to render him unconscious and strangled him with his belt, intending to kill him. After that, he began mutilating his body and removing his entrails in front of the camera, to publish these clips in cooperation with the second defendant on electronic platforms to make a profit.
The prosecution referred the defendants to the Criminal Court, which issued its verdict on Thursday, in a case that shocked public opinion in Egypt.
