Former president Hosni Mubarak arrived at the Police Academy Saturday afternoon as the North Cairo Criminal Court resumes the former leader’s retrial over charges of murdering protesters and financial corruption.
Also standing trial are Mubarak’s two sons, Alaa and Gamal, his interior minister Habib al-Adly and six of the latter’s aides.
This is the case’s fourth, closed retrial session. The court is reportedly scheduled to hear the testimony of former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and former Assistant Foreign Minister Wafaa Nessim.
The court is also expected to hear former military police commander, Hamdy Badeen.
Earlier witnesses in the case included former Intelligence Chief Mourad Mowafi, former Prime Minister Atef Ebeid, former Interior Minister Ahmed Gamal Eddin and current Petroleum Minister Shefi Ismail.
Mubarak and Adly were first sentenced to 25 years over charges of killing protesters during the January 2011 revolt that forced Mubarak to step down before the court of cassation ordered a retrial. Adly’s aides were previously exonerated before retrial.
Mubarak and his sons are also being retried over corruption in the natural gas export deal with Israel.
