Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni will inaugurate the 43rd Cairo International Book Fair on 26 January at the Cairo International Convention Center (CICC) in Nasr City.
The fair is scheduled to last until 6 February. Chinese representatives will be in attendance as the guests of honor.
“Holding the fair at the CICC is a challenge that we should be for,” said Mohamed Saber Arab, head of the Egyptian General Book Organization.
The fair will celebrate Egyptians who achieved literary success abroad such as Farouk al-Baz, Hani Azer, and Ahmed Zoweil. It will also commemorate the birthday of Nobel Prize winner and Arab literary icon Naguib Mahfouz.
Fair sponsors work in collaboration with the Novel Committee, an affiliate of the Supreme Council for Culture. The fair will also commemorate the 50-year anniversary of Beiram al-Tonsi’s death and the 80-year anniversary of Salah Jaheen’s birth.
The CICC location is a change of place from previous years. The former site, the international fair ground, is currently under construction. But, according to Hosni, the sophisticated facilities at the CICC location are consistent with international standards.
