The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation kicked off on Tuesday the meetings of the 48th session of its commission, in preparation for the 11th D-8 Summit slated for Thursday in Cairo.
The commissioners’ meetings, which are taking place in Cairo, are chaired by Egyptian Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International and Regional Multilateral Economic Affairs and D-8 Commissioner Ambassador Ragy el Etreby.
The meetings will discuss topics on the agenda of the Cairo-hosted summit, particularly ways to enhance economic cooperation in various domains among the member states, ambassador Etreby said.
The Egyptian commissioner highlighted great importance attached by Egypt to the D-8 and its current presidency of the organization that extends until the end of 2025.
Etreby touch on prospective opportunities to promote economic relations with the member states in the sectors of industry, agriculture and services, towards supporting Egypt’s comprehensive development goals.
The ambassador affirmed the importance of boosting cooperation in luring investments, as well as beefing up the volume of trade exchange.
He added that D-8 member states represent a huge market, with a population of more than one billion people and a gross domestic product of nearly five trillion dollars.
During the meetings, all member states showed full support for all Egyptian initiatives aimed at advancing economic cooperation among the D-8 group.
Etreby is set to submit the outcomes of the commissioners’ discussions to the 21st Session of the D-8 Council of Foreign Ministers on Wednesday, ahead of the 11th D-8 Summit, slate for Thursday in Cairo.
Established in 1997, the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation is an organization for economic cooperation between Egypt, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
The organization aims to improve member states’ position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living.
