Doma’s ‘Cabinet’ trial postponed

The Cairo Criminal Court on Monday postponed the trial of political activist Ahmed Doma and 268 other defendants, including 16 detained and nine fugitives, to 13 August.

They are being tried for their alleged involvement in clashes in front of the Cabinet building.

Doma objected to the glass dock. “We are not in the zoo for you to put me in a cage,” he said, asking his defense team to withdraw from the session for that reason.

He also requested to talk with his defense team without prior permission from the court as this is unconstitutional, which angered the panel.

The court allowed a delegation of the European Union to attend the hearing.
