Following Wednesday’s torrential rain and heavy floods that killed five in Sudan, Egypt has dispatched urgent humanitarian aid including medicine, blankets, tents, foodstuffs and engineering equipment to its southern neighbour.
The aid was provided by the Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs, Health, Social Solidarity, and Agriculture, along with the Egyptian Red Crescent.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi also dispatched medical and veterinary convoys to several Sudanese provinces to manage the spread of pests, protect livestock from the floods, and control the spread of disease from livestock killed so far, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
Sisi insisted on providing aid “within the framework of brotherly ties and shared destiny, which bring together the two countries and two peoples”.
The floods have killed five and injured six, according to the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Sudan.
109 families were affected by the rain, with 54 homes completely destroyed and 55 partially destroyed, the directorate’s report added.
The heavy rain, which hit most of Sudan’s capital city of Khartoum, has caused the Education Ministry to suspend study at public and private schools, for the safety of its students.
