Egypt fined by CAF for violation of 2013 qualifiers broadcast

The African Football Federation (CAF) fined Egypt a US$2 million on Sunday for violating broadcast rights during the 2013 qualifiers to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The Egyptian Football Association had broadcast the Egypt-Ghana encounter on 15 October 2013 in violation of TV broadcast terms agreed beforehand.

CAF’s letter to the Egyptian association on Sunday revealed that the fine will be cut off the EFA’s satellite broadcast returns for upcoming qualifiers.

CAF rejected EFA’s request to extend the deadline for settling its dispute with beinsports, the company that owned broadcast rights, beyond 31 December 2014.
