Egypt, France conclude joint naval exercise in Red Sea

Egypt and France on Saturday finalized a joint naval exercises in the Red Sea, as part of the Egyptian armed forces plan for training with allied countries.

Official Spokesperson of the Armed Forces Tamer al-Refaei said that the Egyptian-French naval exercises that lasted for several days at the Red Sea and included many activities and events have concluded.

Several naval units, including a French Mistral-Class helicopter carrier, frigates, rocket launchers and anti-submarine aircraft were used in the training, according to Refaei.

It also included training on take-off and landing of helicopters, as well as fighting naval battles at sea. Exercises were conducted in securing offshore units using air-defense weapons, securing lines of communication and the movement of maritime transport.

Commander of the Egyptian Navy Ahmed Khalid attended one of the training stages aboard a French helicopter carrier with the participation of elements from the Egyptian and French sides.
