Egypt, France conduct naval exercise in the Red Sea

Egypt’s naval forces on Monday carried out joint maritime training with French forces in the Red Sea at the Berenice Military Base, as part of the Egyptian army’s plan to strengthen military cooperation with friendly countries.

Egyptian military spokesperson Tamer al-Refai said in a Facebook statement on Monday that the training was attended by the Egyptian Sharm el-Sheikh navy frigate, the corvette Abu Qair, the French mistral-class amphibious assault ship Tonnerre, and the French frigate Surcouf.

The training included many activities aimed at strengthening cooperation while implementing combat missions in the sea against hostile naval formations, as well as training on the use of weapons while engaging targets.

It also tested the capabilities and efficiency of participating forces to carry out joint collective action as well as coordinate planned training tasks.

The session facilitated an exchange of skills and techniques between the two sides and enhanced military cooperation between the two forces, with both Egypt and France moving toward achieving common interests.

The training also included maritime formations, dealing with different threats, protecting vital targets in the sea, air defense drills, and helicopter landing on vessel decks.
