Egypt hires new soccer team coach

Shawqi Gharib officially signed a contract on Thursday to coach Egypt's national soccer team, succeeding his American predecessor Bob Bradley.

Gharib signed the contract during a meeting with the head of the soccer federation Gamal Allam and his deputy Hassan Farid, as well as members of the federation's board of directors Magdy al-Matnawy, Ahmed Megahed and Waleed Mahdy.

Gharib's aides also signed contracts for their new positions including Alaa Nabil as general coach, Abdel Sattar Sabry as assistant coach, Osama Nabeeh as assistant coach, Ahmed Hassan as team director, Hossam al-Ebrashy as rehabilitation and physical therapy specialist, Hassanein Hamza as massage specialist and Badr Emam as injuries specialist.

A press conference is scheduled later on Thursday during which Gharib will announce his plan to train the national team for the 2015 African Nations Cup qualifiers.

Egypt had been kicked out of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers after being defeated by Ghana.
