Egypt hosts Sudanese faction peace talks

Egypt hosted an important meeting over the past two days between the Forces of Freedom and Change alliance and the Sudanese Revolutionary Front alliance, which represents the Sudanese armed movements.

The meeting was held to help bring peace to all parties in Sudan and in support of the constitutional document set to be signed on August 17.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the early hours of Tuesday that the participants exchanged views, and agreed to present their findings to the Forces of Freedom and Change leadership in Khartoum. The statement added that Egypt will continue its contact with Sudan and neighboring countries, in an effort to achieve peace and stability and support the new Sudanese government in its quest to achieve the aspirations of its people.

The leader of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) Gibril Ibrahim told a press conference at the end of the meetings that had been serious, frank and constructive dialogues regarding all issues of concern.

He added that these talks reached a general consensus to focus on peace and the importance of not excluding anyone.

The leader of the Declaration of Freedom and Change Forces (DFCF) opposition alliance Madani Abbas Madani said that dialogues will continue with the Sudanese Revolutionary Front alliance to ease the Sudanese people into the transitional phase.

A prominent leader of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front alliance Yasser Arman thanked Egypt, its leadership and its people for their constant support towards Sudan.
