Egypt implements new winter hours for shops, cafes and workshops

Khaled Kassem, spokesperson for the Ministry of Local Development, announced that the winter operating hours for shops, restaurants, cafes, and workshops officially went into effect starting Friday, in accordance with the 2020 Cabinet decision.

Speaking to the news channel Extra News, Kassem clarified that commercial shops and malls will operate from 7:00 am until 10:00 pm under the winter schedule. Operating hours will be extended until 11:00 pm on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as on official holidays and public feasts.

He added that restaurants, cafes, and bazaars will open from 5:00 am until 12:00 am (midnight), with hours extending to 1:00 am on weekends and holidays.

Kassem further noted that delivery services will remain operational 24 hours a day.

Regarding workshops and craft businesses located within residential blocks, operating hours will be from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 pm Exceptions to this rule include workshops located on main roads, highways, and at gas stations. Additionally, the decision exempts grocery stores, supermarkets, bakeries, vegetable vendors, and pharmacies.
