Egypt to inaugurate anticipated economic conference Friday

Egypt's economic conference held to encourage investment to revive the national economy is set to begin on Friday in the resort town of Sharm al-Sheikh with over 80 participant countries.

President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi will give his inaugural address at 4 p.m., followed by addresses by participating heads of state, delegations, and international financial institutions.

A number of delegations have flocked to Sharm al-Sheikh to attend the gathering, including the United States' delegation, headed by Secretary of State John Kerry, the European Union's delegation, and delegations from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.

The conference will take place amid tight security measures.

Egypt has long been campaigning for the conference among regional and international trade allies. The state strongly believes heavy participation in the conference would help in the recovery of an economy battered by political turmoil during the past four years.
