Egypt, Iran FMs discuss nuclear deal and regional stability on fringe of UN meetings

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held talks on Monday, September 23, 2025, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, discussing recent developments in Iran’s nuclear file.

The talks focused on the agreement reached between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Cairo on September 9—the first such deal to resume cooperation following the Israeli strike on Iran, according to a statement by the foreign ministry in Cairo.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing efforts to create conditions for delaying the reactivation of UN sanctions and resuming negotiations between Iran and the United States, in a way that takes into account the interests of all parties.

He also underscored the need for de-escalation, restoring trust, and fostering an environment conducive to regional security and stability.
