Egypt, Iraq discuss military escalation in region

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed, in a phone call on Saturday, 7/3/2026, with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations Affairs Fouad Hussein, the serious military escalation currently unfolding in the region.

During the call, the two ministers exchanged views on the repercussions of the ongoing escalation.

Abdelatty warned that the continuation of such an escalatory approach threatens regional peace and security and could lead to serious and unpredictable consequences.

He stressed the importance of prioritizing diplomatic channels and political dialogue in order to contain the situation and prevent the conflict from expanding further across the region.

The discussion also addressed attacks targeting Iraqi territory as well as several Gulf and other Arab states. Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Iraq and all Arab countries in confronting these attacks.

He strongly condemned any violation of the sovereignty and stability of Iraq and other brotherly states, reiterating Egypt’s firm rejection of any justification or pretext used to legitimize such acts of aggression.
