Egypt, Irish FMs Discuss Gaza Developments Over Phone

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on Tuesday 26/3/2024 a phone call from Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defense Micheál Martin.

During the phone conversation, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the war-torn Gaza Strip, as well as efforts to attain ceasefire and put an end to the difficult humanitarian conditions in the enclave.

The two ministers also discussed the outcome of the contacts held with the various regional and international parties in order to put an end to the ongoing war in Gaza Strip, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid.

They further discussed the latest developments related to the decision, which was issued yesterday by the UNSC to implement a ceasefire in Gaza Strip during the holy fasting month of Ramadan, added the spokesman.

The phone conversation also tackled international efforts to implement the UNSC decision and thus attain a ceasefire and end the war in the enclave, said the spokesperson.

Shoukry also briefed the Irish official on the efforts being exerted by Egypt to attain mediation efforts between Hamas and Israel, he added.

For his part, the Irish official referred to the outcome of his contacts with several European countries regarding the recognition of the Palestinian State.

He also said that the only way to attain peace and security in the Middle East is implementing the two-state solution and building an independent Palestinian state.
