Egypt, Qatar FMs discuss Gaza plan, regional files

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty had a phone call with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2026.

The top diplomats discussed ongoing efforts to advance the implementation of the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan, particularly focusing on Israeli withdrawals from the Gaza Strip.

The talks were part of the ongoing consultation and coordination between the two countries, aiming at supporting bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional files of mutual interest.

Spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty lauded deep relations between Egypt and Qatar, highlighting the continuous development of ties at various levels. He also reaffirmed the mutual desire to push forward cooperation in different sectors.

Abdelatty also referred to the development project in Alam Al-Roum as an example of exemplary development partnership between the two nations, expressing hope for more Qatari investments in Egypt to strengthen cooperation and build on the positive momentum achieved recently for the benefit of both peoples.

The ministers also discussed the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the energy sector on January 4, which is seen as a significant step to enhance institutional cooperation in this vital sector, support regional energy security, and maximize the potential and resources of both countries.

Both ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Gaza Strip, as Abdelatty underlined the need for forming a temporary Palestinian technocratic committee to manage the enclave’s affairs, alongside the establishment of an international stabilization force. He also emphasized Egypt’s rejection of any practices that undermine the territorial unity of Palestine.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of any form of partition, whether through changes on the ground in the West Bank or attempts to divide Gaza.

Both sides also reviewed developments in Yemen, as Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position supporting Yemen’s unity, territorial integrity, and the preservation of its national institutions. He emphasized the need for de-escalation, reducing tensions, and reaching a comprehensive political solution through Yemeni dialogue, avoiding unilateral actions and ensuring the restoration of security and stability for the Yemeni people.

The two sides also stressed the importance of continued close coordination and consultation in the coming period to support regional stability.
