Egypt's Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy resumed contacts and negotiations with a number of international companies, specialized in the technology of establishing and operating nuclear stations.
NPPA also received a number of proposals in this regard as part of Egypt's efforts to diversify energy resources and revive its peaceful nuclear energy program with the aim of setting up a number of nuclear stations to generate power.
According to NPPA Chairman Atef Abdel Hamid, the authority was now also intensifying efforts to provide training in order to develop its human resources, so that its staffers would be ready for technical posts while implementing and operating the national nuclear program.
As for the issue of the failure of NPPA to renew the contract of nuclear scientist Mounir Megahed, Abdel Hamid clarified that the scientist was a deputy chairman for the NPPA and following reaching his retirement age in 2010, the NPPA forged a contract with him to make use of his experience on a monthly basis.
Following finalizing the phases and negotiations on the coming nuclear program, NPPA, and in accordance with its needs, will work on reaching a number of deals with advisors and experts to help the authority implement the program, he said.
