Egypt will not sell more natural gas to Israel than the amount the latter already receives, an Egyptian official source said on Saturday.
In a statement to the press, an official source from East Mediterranean Gas (EMG) said that Egypt will not enter into any new gas agreements and will give a priority to satisfying local needs.
A number of Israeli newspapers had published reports on Friday alleging that EMG is negotiating with Israel to import additional quantities of Egyptian gas.
The Egyptian source, however, dismissed the validity of these reports, saying that gas companies operating in Israel spread false news as part of their commercial strategies.
Israel imports 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas annually. The Egyptian opposition claims Israel is receiving these amounts at discounted prices in accordance with a contract signed in 2005.
