Egypt seeks to increase Chinese investments

Deputy Executive President of the General Authority of Free Zones and Investment (GAFI) Yasser Abbas reiterated on Sunday the country’s interest in boosting relations with China and encouraging Chinese investors to pump their money in Egyptian market.

Abbas made the remarks while receiving a high-level Chinese delegation grouping representatives of 40 Chinese companies.

Talks tackled deeply-rooted relations between Egypt and China as Egypt was the first Arab and African country to recognize the People’s Republic of China.

The two sides discussed available investment opportunities in Egypt especially in the economic zone of Suez Canal as considered one of the main stations of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and a regional center for green hydrogen production in the Middle east and Africa.

They also mulled partnership opportunities in the small and medium-sized enterprises sector and the role played by the small, medium and micro enterprises development agency in boosting startups.

Abbas expounded facilitations offered by the authority to investors, including golden license, a comprehensive approval on the set up, operation and management of a project.
