Egypt is keen on participating as a member in the International Steering Committee for the One Planet Summit, launched at the UN climate conference, COP28, in Dubai late last year, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Suwailam said on Tuesday 23/1/2024.
Suwailam made the remarks during a virtual meeting with Barbara Pompili, French President Emmanuel Macron’s Special Envoy for the One Water Summit, to discuss Egypt’s agenda for the One Planet Summit, scheduled for September 2024 in New York.
As chair of the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW), Egypt will convey Africa’s vision for water and climate adaptation, as part of its leading role in global climate action, the minister said.
He also underscored Egypt’s interest in sharing knowledge and expertise in effective water management and climate adaptation, briefing the French official on Egypt’s successful efforts to put water on top of the global climate agenda during the 5th and 6th editions of Cairo Water Week, and many other regional as well as international events.
The summit will take place under the theme: “One Water Summit” on the margins of the UN General Assembly’s high level session.
