The Egyptian Health and Population Ministry is set to establish the first national foster care center, in cooperation with the Social Solidarity Ministry and the FACE for Children in Need foundation.

The center will provide services to children who have lost care, including medical and social services, with special priority given to children who are found abandoned without parents.

The Ministers of Health and Solidarity held a meeting with the founder and President at FACE for Children in Need,  Flavia Shaw-Jackson, to discuss ways of cooperation in regards to integrated care programs for children.

The Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, said that the meeting dealt with ways of cooperation between the ministry through The National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), the Ministry of Solidarity, and Face Foundation.

The possibility was raised of supporting the foundation by dedicating clinics in the ministry to provide health services for newborn children who are found abandoned, Abdel-Ghaffar said, alongside providing vaccination programs, periodic examination and health follow-ups for children of various ages.

Abdel-Ghaffar also assured of the ministry’s support in providing medical staff and specialists, alongside studying the establishment of a comprehensive center for foster children, and establishing a database for them within the health care system.
