Egypt, US discuss enhancing cooperation in energy field

Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badwai has discussed in a meeting with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, ways of fostering cooperation between the two countries in the energy field, especially with the engagement of some American oil companies for the first time in research and exploration activities in Egypt, most notably Chevron and ExxonMobil.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 10th annual Powering Africa Summit, which is held in Washington DC on March 6-7, according to a statement released by the Petroleum Ministry on Friday 7/3/2025.

The two sides explored the possibility of boosting cooperation in developing the fields of the Eastern Mediterranean region and transferring natural gas produced from those fields through Egyptian liquefaction facilities at Idku and Damietta.

They also agreed to hold an expanded meeting on Tuesday, within activities of the CERA week.
